Our Process
The most important service we can provide is to help you organize and make sense of your financial affairs. Many people who come to us have investment portfolios that were put together over a period of time with no real plan and no follow-up monitoring. The result is often a combination of investments that do not work together and may not even be appropriate any more. To help you get back on track, our investment process consists of the following:
Identifying Investment Objectives
If you don’t know where you are going, how will you know when you’ve arrived? Identifying and developing investment objectives provides a good map for initiating an investment program and plays a crucial role in monitoring your portfolio. Investment objectives may include:
- Appropriate portfolio risk
- Liquidity
- Growth
- Current income
- Financial independence
These and other objectives should be carefully considered before embarking on an investment program and should be reviewed on a regular basis.
Discipline
Having well defined investment objectives allows you to be more disciplined in your approach to investments. Discipline is very important, especially when the markets are moving up and down on a day-to-day basis. Discipline allows you to make rational decisions when emotionalism in the marketplace could threaten sound judgment. We create diversified portfolios that are individually designed, monitored and adjusted based upon your particular circumstances.
Diversification does not assure a profit nor protect against loss.
Access to Asset Allocation Models Many people make investment decisions based upon what has happened in the past. They choose last year’s top performing security, for example, without regard to whether the particular investment is appropriate for their portfolio. We offer access to asset allocation models which allocate assets among the three main investment categories
The performance of a portfolio depends largely on the types of investments or asset classes that you choose.
However, asset allocation cannot eliminate the risk of fluctuating prices
and uncertain returns. Past performance is not indicative nor a guarantee
of future results.
Professional Management
Our job is to consult with you and develop an investment strategy that will help you to reach your financial goals. When it comes to making the day-to-day buy and sell decisions with respect to individual securities, we prefer to use experienced professional money managers.
Monitoring
Our ongoing, objective portfolio monitoring is crucial in order to spot signs of trouble. We watch for significant events such as: changes in key decision makers at the management company, shifting market dynamics, or unexplained poor performance. Although we review portfolios throughout the year, formal reviews with clients are generally done on an annual or semi-annual basis.
Long-Term Outlook
The stock and bond markets react to daily news events. However, it is important to maintain a long-term outlook in order to avoid making impulsive decisions that can undermine long-term investment goals. Once again, this relates to the importance of adhering to your investment objectives and the time frame in which you would like to achieve them.
We can help you consider the many issues involved and work with you toward your financial objectives. As qualified professionals, we will listen, understand and advise you on financial matters. We believe that what you want is objective, unbiased advice in user-friendly terms. We are dedicated to developing an action plan and working toward your financial success.
